Doctor Strange (2016) follows the journey of Stephen Strange, a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon whose life changes after a devastating car accident leaves his hands severely damaged. Desperate to regain his abilities, Strange seeks out every possible cure, eventually turning to the mystic arts. He travels to Kamar-Taj, where he meets the Ancient One, a powerful sorcerer who teaches him to harness mystical energy and reshape reality. Initially skeptical, Strange soon discovers that the universe is far more complex and magical than he ever imagined.
As he trains, Strange learns about a group of rogue sorcerers led by Kaecilius, who seeks to summon the dark entity Dormammu from the Dark Dimension to achieve immortality and reshape the world. Kaecilius, disillusioned by the Ancient One’s teachings, believes that by embracing Dormammu’s power, he can save humanity from time and death. Strange, alongside fellow sorcerers Wong and Mordo, must stop Kaecilius and protect Earth from the forces of the Dark Dimension.
The final act sees Strange confronting Dormammu directly in the Dark Dimension, cleverly trapping him in a time loop until Dormammu agrees to leave Earth alone. While Strange successfully saves the world, the cost is high—Mordo becomes disillusioned by the Ancient One’s moral compromises and leaves the group. Strange fully embraces his role as the new protector of Earth, becoming the Sorcerer Supreme and guardian of the Sanctum Sanctorum, while the threat of darker forces still looms.
